Cosmetic Tattooing Post-Care Instructions
To achieve optimal results, it's essential to take proper care of your cosmetic tattoo after the procedure. Healing can take anywhere from 7-14 days, but full healing may take up to 4-6 weeks.
1. Day 1-2: Keep it Clean
• Gently blot the area with a clean tissue or cotton pad to remove any lymph fluid that may appear. Do this every few hours to prevent scabbing.
2. Washing the face
Do not scrub, rub, or use harsh products on the area.
3. Apply Ointment
Apply a thin layer of the aftercare ointment provided by your technician or a fragrance-free healing balm (like bepanthem or A&D ointment). Do this 2-3 times a day for the first week, as instructed.
Do not over-apply, as this can cause clogged pores. 4. Avoid Water Exposure
For the first 7-10 days, avoid submerging the area in water (no swimming, saunas, hot tubs, or long showers).
5. Make up
• Avoid applying makeup to the tattooed area until it is fully healed. Makeup can introduce bacteria and irritate the healing process, please avoid the treated area when applying.
6. No Picking or Scratching
• As the area heals, it may scab or flake. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs or flakes, as this can lead to pigment loss and scarring.
7. Sun Protection
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks. UV rays can cause pigment fading.
Once healed, always apply SPF 30 or higher to the tattooed area when exposed to the sun.
8. Avoid Sweating
• For the first 7-10 days, avoid heavy sweating from activities like working out, hot yoga, or steam rooms. Excess sweat can cause the pigment to fade or shift.
9. Sleep on a Clean Pillowcase
• Use a clean pillowcase and avoid sleeping on your face to prevent bacteria from causing infection and to protect the healing area.
10. Touch-ups
• A follow-up touch-up is typically recommended 4-6 weeks after your initial procedure. This allows for any necessary adjustments and ensures the best final result.
Healing Timeline:
Day 1-3: The colour may appear darker or more intense than expected. Swelling and redness are normal.
Day 4-7: Scabbing, distorted shape or peeling may occur. The colour will start to lighten.
Day 7-14: The tattooed area may look lighter as the skin heals and regenerates.
Week 4-6: The final colour will appear after the skin has completely healed.
Important:
If you experience any signs of infection after treatment is performed (fever, intense redness, swelling, or pus), contact your doctor immediately. Healed results vary from client to client and cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Tattooing
1. What is cosmetic tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing, also known as permanent makeup, is a procedure that uses a specialized tattooing technique to enhance facial features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. It involves implanting pigment into the upper layers of the skin to create a natural, long-lasting look.
2. How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
The results of cosmetic tattooing can last between 1 to 3 years, depending on the individual’s skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Factors like sun exposure, skincare routine, and your body’s natural response to the pigment can affect how long it lasts. Touch-ups are typically required every 1-2 years to maintain the colour and shape.
3. Is cosmetic tattooing painful?
Most clients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure, as a topical numbing cream is applied before and during the tattooing process. Pain levels vary from person to person, but many describe the sensation as similar to light scratching or pressure.
4. What areas can be treated with cosmetic tattooing?
The most common areas treated include:
Eyebrows: For fuller, defined brows (e.g., nano feathering, powder brows).
Eyeliner: Enhances the lash line and adds definition to the eyes.
Lips: For a fuller, more even lip color (lip blush or lip liner).
5. How long does the procedure take?
The entire process typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on the area being tattooed and the complexity of the design. This includes consultation, drawing the design, numbing, and tattooing.

Healing time varies from person to person, but typically you can expect:
Day 1-3: The colour may look darker and the area might feel swollen.
